PAQS 2022 Congress: Disruption and Transformation in the Built Environment

The 2022 PAQS congress will be hosted in Singapore.

The construction industry has existed for thousands of years since human settlements emerged. The elaborate history indubitably ingrains traditional practices within the industry, making changes and innovation challenging to embrace. The theme of this congress aims to break out of this long-established mould, and to adopt disruptive technologies to transform and improve the construction industry, especially in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The adoption of new technologies need to go hand in hand with transformative delivery. The old design-bid-build model may need to be overhauled, to take in emerging technologies such as virtual reality, block chain and artificial intelligence. This engenders changes in the way quantity surveyors work, and some job redesign may be necessary. Built facilities that are developed based on disruptive and transformative technologies also need to be sustainable and give occupants a sense of wellness and liveability.
